BUCKSPORT – Catherine Judith (Emery) Nadeau, 80, formerly of Pittsfield, Mass., died Thursday, March 11, 2010, in Bangor, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 18, 1930, in St. Francis, the daughter of Edmund Joseph Emery and Annie Rose (Morin) Emery. Known as Judy, she was married for 61 years to Alton Alfred Nadeau, originally of Fort Kent. They married Jan. 17, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Houlton. She graduated from Fort Kent High School and Madawaska Training School. She and her husband moved their family to Pittsfield, Mass., in 1971, where she was a realtor, a teacher’s aide and active with the PTA. Judy became a licensed practical nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital and a registered nurse at Berkshire Community College. She worked as charge nurse for 22 years at Berkshire Nursing Home. Judy fulfilled a lifelong dream when she traveled to Egypt, Israel, Turkey and Greece with her husband in 1989. She read voraciously, kept beautiful gardens and loved to swim. She excelled at Charlemagne and at crossword puzzles. Judy was an inspiration for her insights, her organizational abilities and her patience. She generously shared her heart and home with everyone who came into her life and the lives of her family. Judy is survived by her husband, Alton Nadeau of Bucksport; her children, Diana Nadeau of Fort Fairfield, David Nadeau of Amherst, Mass., Colette Nadeau of Amherst, Mass., Judith Romero of Attleboro, Mass., William Nadeau and wife, Margaret Larson, of Pittsfield, Mass., Donald Nadeau of Beverly, Mass., his twin Donna O’Brien and her husband, Michael, of Eagle Lake, James Nadeau and his wife, Jill Mandell, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Timothy Nadeau of Bangor; 15 grandchildren, Sheryl-Lyn Jandreau and her spouse, James Jandreau, Liana Romero and her fiance, Kenny Barry, Eric Nazar, Nicholas Buckminster, Jon Nadeau, Daniel Buckminster, Jeffrey Nadeau, Sarah Nadeau, Emily Rose Nadeau, Caroline Nadeau, Brianna O’Brien, Alexander Nadeau, Catherine Nadeau, Bailey O’Brien and Jacob “Max” Nadeau; and three great-grandsons, Marlee Condon, Coty Jandreau and Austin Jandreau. Judy is also survived by her three sisters, Freida Chase of Bucksport, Sheila Deabay of Bangor and Edwina Layton of Bangor. She was predeceased by her parents, Edmund J. and Annie Rose (Morin) Emery; her grandson, Michael O’Brien Jr.; and great-grandson, Braiden Nadeau. The family wishes to thank Judy’s special caregivers who tended her during her final days: Dr. Claudia, Starr, Will, Irene, Kerry and Lia, Carol and Missy, and the folks at the cancer and health care centers where she was tended. Visitation for family and friends will be held 4-6 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bucksport, with Father Chris Piscelli, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
