A Knox County jury acquitted a lobsterman and his daughter on charges related to his shooting of another lobsterman during a turf dispute among fishermen on Matinicus Island. Was the man justified in firing the shots aboard his boat? Was this a case of self-defense? Or was there another way the man could have handled the matter? Will the verdict calm the tensions among the fishing community on the island, or is more violence likely? Should law enforcement agencies be much more vigilant and raise the penalties

for cutting lobster traps and other such forms of harassment?
