AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Forest Service and the National Weather Service have issued a red flag wildfire warning for areas near Greenville and Millinocket south to the coastal areas of Hancock County and all of Washington County (http://www.erh.noaa.gov/car/local_hazards.php).
This warning is in effect until 6 p.m. today and, based on weather conditions, could be issued again tomorrow.
The high winds and low relative humidity have created dangerous conditions that could allow wildfires to spread rapidly. Several wildfires have occurred over the last few days, including a 6-acre wildfire in Orland, which threatened two structures.
The Maine Forest Service urges all residents to postpone their outdoor burning until we get a significant rainfall.
