BAILEYVILLE – Mary Jean Woodruff, 60, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 16, 2010, with her loving family by her side. Mary Jean was born Aug. 2, 1949, in Calais, daughter of the late Donald Cole Sr. and Doris (O’Neill) Cole. After graduating from Calais High School, she began waitressing at the Wickachee. On Feb. 13, 1971, she married Dennis Woodruff in Calais. Mary Jean later began her career as a bartender with the American Legion, Calais, where she most recently was bar manager. She was a life member of Sherman Bros. Unit No. 3 American Legion Auxiliary and Boyd-Smith Post Auxiliary No. 9779 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mary Jean enjoyed doing word searches, watching high school basketball tournaments, and playing cards and games with her grandchildren. Mary Jean was a wonderful cook; she truly enjoyed cooking and baking for any occasion, but her fondest enjoyments were times spent with her grandchildren. Surviving are her loving husband, Dennis Woodruff Sr. of Baileyville; three children, Dorie Dunton and her husband, Stanley, of Newburgh, Crystal Monk and her husband, Troy, of Baileyville and Dennis Woodruff II and his wife, Charlene, of Big Lake Township; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Cole and Michael Cole, both of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Jeffrey Cole of Baileyville; three special friends, Siddy Cole and Patricia Clark, both of Calais, and Gwenny Damon of Boston; many nieces and nephews; and her favorite aunt, Tunny of Baileyville. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a celebration of Mary Jean’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20.
