MACHIAS – Robert Leonard Day died March 16, 2010, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, where he received wonderful care, after a short illness. He was born March 14, 1928, in Machias, a son of the late Roy and Rena Day. Robert was raised in Machias and attended schools in the Machias area. He worked in local factories and a lumber mill in Whitneyville. Bob also enjoyed raking blueberries for Howard and Vivian Dodge. In his 70s, he was still raking in Cooper for John Day, who lives in Florida during the winter months. Bob enjoyed his car and taking rides every day. Bob is survived by many cousins including Wade, Claire Day and family, Vicki, Jay Maker and family, Brian, Debbie and family, Billy, MaryEllen and family, Dennis Day and family, Donald, Ellen Donoghy and family, and Danny Day and family. Robert is also survived by a very special friend who visited him regularly, Edwin Reynolds. Robert was predeceased by his only sibling, Cecil Day, who was killed in World War II. He was also predeceased by his uncles and aunts, Homan, Arthur, Charlie, Ethel, May, Alley, Edgar and Leonard. Family and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 19, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 220 Court St., Machias, where a service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 20.
