Swarthmore sweeps UMPI

At Swarthmore, Pa., Sunday, Swarthmore College ripped University of Maine-Presque Isle pitching for 24 hits and swept a doubleheader 12-0 and 13-1.
In the first game, Andy Allen of Augusta pitched six strong innings to notch the victory for Swarth-more, allowing five hits while striking out two batters and walking two. Thomas Nakamura had three singles and two RBIs and Mike Waterhouse hit three singles.
Seth Dorr of Hodgdon singled twice for the UMPI Owls.
In the second game, Anthony Montalbano had a double, a triple and three RBIs for Swarthmore. Jimmy Gill added a two-run single.
Tyler Delaney led the Owls with two singles and two stolen bases. D.J. Charette hit an RBI single in the first.

Monks sweep N.J. City University
At Jersey City, N.J., Todd Keneborus drove in a school-record nine runs as Saint Joseph’s College overpowered New Jersey City University 20-8 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader.
The Monks of Standish defeated the Gothic Knights 8-5 in the second game.
In the first game, Eric LaBatte hit a double and four singles with three RBIs for Saint Joseph’s. Chris Campbell hit four singles while Ben Grant-Roy posted two singles and three RBIs. Ian Lee chipped in with two singles and two RBIs.
In the second game, Nate Martin knocked in two runs on two singles for the Monks. Travis Adams singled twice with an RBI while Lee tallied two singles. Mike Burdin added an RBI triple.

At Winter Haven, Fla., John Lerner hit a two-run home run as Colby College topped Union College on Saturday.
Kenneth Kaufman and Ryan Colon each drove in two runs for the Mules of Waterville while John LaMantia finished with three hits. Richard Newton posted an RBI double and a triple.
Ben Price had two hits and three RBIs to pace Union.

Southern Maine wins one of three
At Chandler, Ariz., Matt Wassel tripled, singled and drove in three runs Saturday to help spark Mid-dlebury by the University of Southern Maine of Gorham.
The Huskies split with Williams on Sunday, winning 8-2 and losing the nightcap 11-10.
On Saturday, Anthony Pisani hit three singles and knocked in two runs for the Huskies. John Carey and Christian Hamilton each doubled and singled while Joe Curran singled twice with an RBI.
In Sunday’s opener, Josh Mackey hit a triple, two singles and knocked in two runs to lead USM. Tucker White tripled and doubled with two RBIs, Anthony Pisani registered three singles and Collin Henry hit a two-run double.
Al Mathews had three hits and an RBI to pace Williams.
In the second game, Williams rallied for six runs in the seventh inning.
Matt Foye hit a three-run triple late in the game for the Huskies. Carey hit a double and two singles. White posted two doubles and two RBIs while Pisani doubled, singled and knocked in two runs.

Bates, Mary Washington split
At Fredericksburg, Va., Kevin McGregor’s RBI single in the fifth inning provided the eventual win-ning run for Bates College of Lewiston in a 7-5 Game 1 victory in Sunday’s doubleheader against Mary Washington. The hosts won the second game 14-2.
In Sunday’s opener, Ryan Heide spaced 11 hits while going the distance. Noah Lynd doubled and singled with an RBI, Jacob Simon singled twice and McGregor added another single for Bates.
Seth Jordan doubled and singled for Mary Washington.
In Game 2, the Eagles collected 11 hits to support the pitching of Torey Mancari. Seamus Bergen doubled and drove in three runs for the winners.
Bates was paced by Tom Beaton, who singled twice and had two RBIs.

Husson splits two doubleheaders
At East Providence, R.I, Tom Crews knocked in seven runs in Saturday’s opener, helping the Eagles win 17-6 and split against the Wildcats, who took the second game 10-9.
At Bridgewater, Mass., on Sunday, Kyle Vanidestine’s two-run double capped a four-run fourth inning that lifted Husson of Bangor to a 6-5 victory over the Bears in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader.
Bridgewater State took the opener 3-1.
In Game 1 Saturday, Crews smacked a three-run home run during a nine-run second inning to pace Husson University of Bangor. Crews posted an RBI single in the fourth, a run-scoring triple in the eighth and a two-run single in the ninth.
Shawn Smith doubled and singled with two RBIs and Art Maguire singled twice for Husson behind winner Nate Adams, who allowed four runs in seven innings.
Matt Yaeger singled four times for Johnson & Wales.
In Game 2 Saturday, the Wildcats scored three runs in the sixth and seventh innings to overcome an 8-4 deficit.
Jon Melendez homered, doubled and singled to lead the hosts behind relief winner Chris DePalma, who allowed two runs in 3¤ innings.
Jake Arthers tripled and singled with two RBIs for Husson. Chase Daniels added two singles.
In Sunday’s second game, Husson’s fifth inning was the difference. Jason Smith had an RBI single during the rally.
Cody Haverly-Johndro stroked three singles, Jake Arthers singled twice and Smith added another single. Kyle Leeman went 6¤ innings to earn the win.
Tom Couet doubled and singled with an RBI to lead Bridgewater State.
In Sunday’s opener, reliever Jeff Puopolo struck out Matt Archetti with the bases loaded in the sev-enth to preserve the win.
Jim Balboni scattered six hits and one run in 6ª innings for the Bears, who got two singles and two RBIs from Mark Claffey.
Ethan Guerette singled twice to set the tone for the Eagles behind loser Ryan Arsenault.

At Wenham, Mass., Pete Oggeri hit a pair of two-run home runs Saturday to power Wentworth Insti-tute of Technology to victory over the University of Maine-Farmington.
Justin Bolla singled four times to support winning pitcher Mo Gardiner, who allowed three hits and two runs in seven innings.
Russ Schmelzer singled twice to lead the Beavers. Matt Levine had two RBIs.

SOFTBALL
Maine Maritime sweeps UMPI

At Orono, Mallery Stanley of Standish had a triple, two doubles, a single and seven RBIs Saturday to power Maine Maritime Academy of Castine to a doubleheader sweep of the University of Maine-Presque Isle, 14-3 and 9-1, at the University of Maine’s Mahaney Dome.
The sweep gives the MMA Mariners their first 5-0 start in program history.
In the first game, Casey McCloskey of Howland had three singles and two RBIs for the Mariners and Hannah Seamans had a double and a single. Kayla Higgins of Sullivan hit a three-run home run in the fifth.
Lainey Herring and Brittany Humphrey each had a double and a single to lead the Owls. Herring also had two RBIs.
In the second game, freshman McCloskey pitched a one-hitter for the Mariners while notching six strikeouts and getting two hits and an RBI. Sabrina Keach led the offense with a home run, two singles, and two RBIs.
Herring had the only hit, a single, for the Owls.

UMaine salvages one of three
At Smithfield, R.I., Alexis Souhlaris and Cayleigh Montano combined on a two-hitter as the Black Bears won the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader with host Bryant University 6-0.
Bryant won the opener 5-4.
On Saturday, Boston College beat the Black Bears 5-2.
In Saturday’s game, UMaine had 10 hits but scratched out only two runs.
The Eagles took the lead for good in the fifth inning on Delagrammaticas’ two-run single off Bears re-liever Christine McGivney. Delagrammaticas added two more singles for Boston College, which added two insurance runs in the sixth.
Maria Pandolfo singled twice with an RBI behind relief winner Taylor Peyton.
Kali Burnham singled twice and knocked in two runs to lead UMaine. Alexis Souhlaris and Whitney Spangler also had two singles each.
In Sunday’s finale, Souhlaris worked five innings of two-hit ball with six strikeouts and Montana pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

cored three runs in the first inning and led 6-0 after three. Terren Hall paced the Bears with two doubles, a single and two RBIs, while Spangler singled three times with two RBIs.
Kristen Calvetti and Jenny MacDowell each added two singles.
Kimberly Leonard singled twice for Bryant.
In Sunday’s opener, Talia Zizza’s leadoff home run in the fifth gave the Bulldogs the eventual game-winning run.
MacDowell sparked UMaine with a double, two singles and an RBI. Spangler singled three times and Calvetti singled twice behind relief loser Beth Spoehr.
Laura Bowen hit a two-run homer and a single for Bryant.
The Bears did not commit an error in Sunday’s twinbill.

Thomas sweeps Mass. Maritime
At Buzzards Bay, Mass., Sunday, Thomas College outhit Massachusetts Maritime Academy 23-8 and swept a Sunday doubleheader 14-0 and 17-4.
In the first game, Anika Powers of Stonington had two singles and four RBIs to help pace the Terri-ers of Waterville. Mallorie Blakney of Fairfield and Kaymala Eells each had two singles while freshman Kelsey Crowe pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
Meghan Thibeault and Stephanie Saulenas singled for the Buccaneers’ only hits.
In the second game, Kriegel had three hits while Sarah Estes of Brewer had two singles and two RBIs. Blakney, Samantha Moore of Etna and freshman Alexandra Kennedy of Readfield each had two singles.
For the Bucs, Holly McLaughlin had two singles and two RBIs.

Bates splits
At Clermont, Fla., Bates College split a pair of games Saturday, losing to Eastern Connecticut State 5-0 in the first game and evening out the day with a 6-3 win over Middlebury College (0-1) in the afternoon.
In the first game, Molly Rathbun pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts to lead Eastern Connecti-cut (1-0) to the win.
Courtney Talcott hit a pair of singles to pace the 2-4 Bobcats.
In the second game, Leah Maciejewski hit a two-run single to help propel Bates to the win. Lauren Dobish, Karen Ullmann, Mary Lewis and Talcott each posted an RBI single.

MIT 11, Southern Maine 10
At Clermont, Fla., Trinity Leonard hit two triples, a double and a single with four RBIs Sunday to propel the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by the University of Southern Maine of Gorham.
The Engineers erupted with seven runs in the third inning en route to the win.
Melissa Caiazzo tripled, doubled, singled and drove in a run for Southern Maine. Lauren DiCecco tal-lied a double, two singles and an RBI. Jess Hayden and Sarah Cusack each added a double and an RBI.

Husson 20, Rivier 1

At Bangor, Ben Landry netted four goals and had four assists Saturday as Husson University cruised past Rivier College.
Mitch Heaps and Anthony Diaz tallied three goals each for the 1-4 Eagles. Derrick Schlimm had two goals and two assists. Nick Brown, Ethan Menard, Dillon Shaw, Sam Smith, Chris Smedberg, Calvin Dyke and Matt Tabler each added a goal.
Tyler Quinn, Alex Behzad and John Hooper combined to make two saves on four shots.
Patric Bruenn scored late in the game for 0-2 Rivier. Matt Besaw stopped 29 of 84 shots.

Southern Maine 16, Maine Maritime 10
At Castine, Tim Bryant and Kayle Hamilton scored four goals apiece Saturday to spark the University of Southern Maine of Gorham by Maine Maritime Academy.
Mark White posted three goals and two assists for the 1-2 Huskies while Matt Norton chipped in with two goals. Jacob Groom and Kyle Dussault combined for 20 saves.
Chris Keiley netted four goals to pace the 0-1 Mariners. Andrew DiSalvo tallied three goals and three assists. Richard McKee scored two goals while Wade Mondoux added one. Kevin Boucher and Erik Mil-les combined to make 26 saves.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Husson 18, Becker 4

At Leicester, Mass., Alex Huffman registered five goals Sunday as Husson University of Bangor rolled past Becker College.
Shelby Bradford collected four goals and three assists for the 1-0 Eagles. Caitlyn Butterfield and Kim Gambon scored three goals each while Alex Laniewski, Jami Ladd and Caitlyn Ramsey each scored one. Nikki Burns and Kristen Capen combined for 15 saves on 22 shots.
Lindsay Peluso made 21 saves on 39 shots for 1-1 Becker.
