BELFAST – M. Evelyn “Evie” Nelson, 85, passed away April 4, 2010, at her residence. She was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Newburyport, Mass., daughter of Jacob and Bertha (Makela) Djerf. Evie and her husband pastored many churches in Maine and Long Island, N.Y. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and worked with the Wings of Love program. Evie was active in volunteer work with hospital chaplaincy, and enjoyed walking and swimming. She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, the Rev. Foster R. Nelson. Survivors include her children, Susan Greeley and husband, Edwin, of Morrill, Douglas E. Nelson of Belfast, Mark L. Nelson of Fort White, Fla., and Rebekah Tucker and husband, Christopher, of South Casco; a brother, James Djerf of Hampton, N.H.; two grandsons, James Greeley and Todd Greeley; two stepgrandchildren, Jerry and Chrissy; three great-grandsons, Zachary, Aidan and Jacob; many nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Morrill Baptist Church with services held 1 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join in a gathering in the fellowship hall immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evie’s memory to Emmanuel Baptist Church, Missions Fund, Lincolnville Avenue, Belfast, ME 04915.
