HOULTON – Catherine A. Brown died April 9, 2010, at Houlton Regional Hospital, after a long period of declining health. Catherine was born Nov. 30, 1936, at Brown Hospital, Mars Hill, daughter of Susie (Blanchard) and Scott Brown. She attended Houlton schools, and graduated from Houlton High School in 1955 and University of Vermont in 1959. She received her masters’ degrees from Rutgers University and University of Manitoba. Catherine taught at both the high school and college level in Pennsylvania and Brooklyn, N.Y, as well as high school in North Brunswick, N.J. She is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Pisarek-Sawyer of Houlton; grandsons, Joel and Aaron Pisarek of Auburn, Calif.; and a special young grandson, Ethan Sawyer of Houlton. She is also survived by her brother, Scott Brown and his wife, Carolyn, of Saybrook, Conn.; and her brother, Thomas Brown and his wife, Gail, of Bangor. In addition, Catherine is survived by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many cousins. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Houlton Church of The Good Shepherd Episcopal with the Rev. Jessie Drysdale officiating. Interment will take place at Houlton Evergreen Cemetery.
