HOULTON, Maine — Houlton High School was host to the Maine State Vocal Jazz Festival held Saturday, April 10.
After successfully competing at local district-level competitions, 39 groups advanced to the state festival where they performed before a panel of judges, according to a press release from Rebecca DeWan of SAD 29 vocal music.
Results for the day and evening competition, including individual awards, are:
• Division 1 Middle School Show Choir: 1st, Somerset Valley Middle School; 2nd, Sebasticook Middle School; 3rd, Mt. Blue Middle School.
Male solo, Connor Plourde, Caribou; female solo, Victoria Keaton, Caribou; choreography, Somerset Valley.
• Division 2 Middle School Show Choir: 1st, Millinocket Middle School; 2nd, Pemetic; 3rd, Wagner Middle School.
Male solo, Peter Jacobson, Pemetic; Female solo, Liza Brown, Millinocket; choreography, Pemetic; rhythm section, Conners-Emerson.
• Division 1 High School Show Choir: 1st, Ellsworth; 2nd, Nokomis; 3rd, Hampden Academy.
Male solo, Dustin Shephard, Waterville; female solo, Ashlee Lawrence, Nokomis; choreography, Ellsworth; rhythm section, Hampden.
• Division 2 High School Show Choir: 1st, Stearns-Schenck; 2nd, Mount Desert Island; 3rd, Houlton.
