BREWER and FORT FAIRFIELD – If you have ever had a birthday or special event that went by unnoticed, you have never known Beryl Briggs Grant Stymiest. Never did a holiday pass when a stranger was not invited to Beryl’s B & B, this stranger who now becomes part of the family. Beryl, 72, passed along peacefully to God April 13, 2010, surrounded by her immediate, loving family and her best friend. Beryl was born Jan. 16, 1938, in Sisson Ridge, New Brunswick, to her surviving mother, Psyche Vandine Briggs of Brewer and Merle Briggs. Family meant the most to Beryl, who left her big footprint around the world with her loving family spread throughout many continents. Beryl graduated from Centerville High School, New Brunswick. She also attended D’Lore Beauty School. Proudly, Beryl became an American citizen in September 1993. She worked for many years at the White Elephant, Brewer Card and Gift, and Marden’s. Beryl was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3177, Brewer, where she loved to play cribbage. Beryl spent many years of her life in Fort Fairfield, where she met and married in September 1956 her beloved husband, Vaughn Grant, who left this world many years ago, leaving her with her four surviving boys, Steven M. Grant and his wife, Louise G. Grant of Brewer, Bryan V. Grant of Kabul, Afghanistan, Allen T., Grant and wife, Teresa Grant, of Plymouth, and Kevin A. Grant and special companion, Robert Morffi, of Florida. After moving to Bangor, Beryl met her second, loving husband, Arthur Stymiest, and together they had her fifth son, Adam M. Stymiest of Hampton Beach, N.H.; and her stepchildren, Scott Stymiest and wife, Barbara Stymiest, of Brewer, and Leigh Stymiest of Florida who always felt Beryl’s motherly love and support. Also surviving are her brother, Peter and wife, Elsie Briggs, of Hamilton, Ontario; her grandchildren, Joshua Grant and wife, Vicki, currently in Italy, and Jeremy Grant, currently in Oregon; sister-in-law, Cynthia Bordon-Sawtelle and husband, Bud Sawtelle, of Winslow; lifetime friends, Judi Blanchard of Freeport and Margaret Scott of California; many beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many beloved long term friends. Family was the most important part of her life and her arms were always open to take in a new brother or sister. Beryl was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and cousin. She will be much missed by many, many people. Beryl’s wishes are that you share time with a family member or friend that you have not seen in a while. Arrangements will be made at a later date.
