PRESQUE ISLE – Emery L. Skillin, 84, died April 15, 2010, at Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. He was born June 3, 1925, in Presque Isle, the son of Emery O. and Maude (Harris) Skillin. He was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, Class of 1942. In 1943, he entered the U.S. Army, serving until February 1946. Emery married Dorothy E. Kelley, June 3, 1947. After his discharge from the military, he attended Boston University School of Management – formerly the College of Business Administration, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1950. He was first employed by Maine Potato Growers, Inc. In 1952, Emery was employed by Northern National Bank – later merged into Casco Northern Bank. He remained with the bank, retiring in 1984. Active in banking circles, Emery was president of Aroostook County Bankers Association. Additionally, he served several terms with Maine Bankers Association headquartered in Augusta on both the consumer credit and banking education committees. After this, he was elected to a three-year term on American Bankers Association, Region 1A Installment Lending Advisory Board, representing the State of Maine. Emery was a member of Grant Memorial United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men. He was a member, since 1952, and past president of Presque Isle Kiwanis Club, as well as a Legion of Honor and life member of Kiwanis International. Emery was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, in 2007. He is survived by a son, Todd E. Skillin of Portland; a daughter, Carole and her husband, Steven L. Doody, of Caribou; two grandsons, Matthew L. Doody and Aaron L. Doody, both of Caribou; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Leavitt of Presque Isle; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, Emery was predeceased by his sister, Mrs. Arthur (Iris) Shields; and three brothers, Claude, Bernard and Merle. A celebration of his life will be held 7 p.m. Saturday at Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, Fleetwood Street, Presque Isle, with Pastor Wes Lavigne officiating. Relatives and friends may call 6 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. A reception for the family will be after the service in the fellowship area of the church. Interment will be held 9 a.m. Sunday at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Grant Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O.
