A Bangor man in custody at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor was charged this week with sexual abuse of two Waldo County minors.

Nicholas Ennis, 22, came to the attention of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 4 after a Bangor Police Department investigation indicated he might have been having sexual relations with two teenage girls in Waldo County, Chief Deputy Robert Keating said Friday.

Detective Merl Reed conducted interviews and found evidence that Ennis had done that, Keating said.

“He had told the girls here — or at least one of the girls — that he was 19,” Keating said.

Ennis was served with the Waldo County summonses on Monday.

Sexual abuse of a minor is a Class C felony. If convicted, Ennis could serve up to five years in jail and pay a fine up to $5,000.

Belfast police said they needed to bring a restraint chair and “spit hood” from the jail to Waldo County General Hospital early Friday morning to control a man being arrested on charges including domestic assault.

Andrew G. Stewart, 23, of Jackson reportedly came to his girlfriend’s High Street home intoxicated just after midnight and the couple argued, according to Belfast Detective Bryan Cunningham.

The woman later told police that Stewart grabbed her wrist and tried to pull her toward him, and then slammed the door as he left the house.

“She locked it behind him,” Cunningham said.

According to the woman, Stewart became angry and started beating the windshield of her car with his bare hands until he had smashed it.

Neighbors called the police, Cunningham said, and when officers arrived they found Stewart hiding under a bush. He became combative when they moved to arrest him and reportedly told the officers he wanted them to kill him.

Because anyone who may be suicidal must be evaluated before being held at the Waldo County Jail, officers brought a handcuffed Stewart to the hospital.

“At the hospital, he ended up getting combative and spitting on people,” Cunningham said.

Officers returned to the jail to pick up the chair and hood, he said, and the evaluation apparently was completed.

Stewart remained in custody at the jail on Friday afternoon.
