MILFORD – James “Jim” P. Hamel, 76, passed away April 15, 2010, at Orono Commons nursing home. He was born Dec. 17, 1933, in Milford, son of the late Joseph A. and Elgie W. (Kelly) Hamel. James married Modeste Thibeault in September 1953 and they celebrated their 56th anniversary in September. He worked at James River Paper Co. for 42 years until his retirement in 1996. He attended Olamon Faith Bible Church, Olamon. He is survived by his wife, Modeste “Betty” (Thibeault) Hamel; two sons, John Hamel of Sedgwick and Michael and his wife, Pamela Hamel, of Groton, N.H.; and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Rachelle. He is also survived by brothers, Raymond and David Hamel of Milford and Arthur Hamel of Greenbush; sister, Ella Rackliff of Milford; uncle, Edward Hamel of Bangor; aunt, Delia Trimm of Bradley; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alfred, Arthur Edward and Joseph Hamel; and sisters, Mary, Frances and Beatrice. He will be fondly remembered by Ernie and Coral Dubay, Dave Bicknell and close friends. The family thanks the staff at Orono Commons for the loving care that James received while there. At his request, there will be no viewing. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at Olamon Faith Bible Church, 126 Military Road, Olamon.
