FORT FAIRFIELD – Freeman Stephen Dyer, 55, husband of Brenda (Jewell) Dyer, passed away Tuesday evening, April 20, 2010, at a Presque Isle health care facility, after an extended illness. He was born Aug. 3, 1954, in Hartford, Conn., son of Freeman “Earl” and Norma P. (Murphy) Dyer. He was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1973, and married Brenda Jewell, May 26, 1989. Freeman was employed by the town of Fort Fairfield as a firefighter-emergency medical technician and was also employed by Crown Ambulance Service, Presque Isle, as a paramedic. He was one of the founding members of Fort Fairfield Ambulance Service. He studied several medical courses at Northern Maine Technical College, Presque Isle, to become a paramedic and later became a critical care paramedic through the University of Baltimore. Freeman enjoyed working with children teaching fire prevention. He served on the board of directors of the Pine Tree Burn Foundation and also served as representative for Aroostook North for the Maine State Federation of Firefighters. Freeman enjoyed hunting, especially moose, collecting memorabilia of his favorite hockey player, Mark Messier and had a special love for his cat, Precious and his dog, Old Boy Jack. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Brenda Jewell Dyer of Fort Fairfield; sons, Stephen Drew Dyer and his wife, Nicole, of Presque Isle, Jeremy Grantham and his wife, Toyna, of Boise, Idaho, Jason Grantham of Presque Isle; daughters, Angela Bubar and her husband, Clifford, of Fort Fairfield and Kimberly Baker and her husband, Trent, of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick; brothers, John Dyer and his wife, Lisa, of Elliot and Robert Dyer and his wife, Shirley, of Youngs Cove, New Brunswick; sisters, Elizabeth Dyer and Susan Taylor, both of Portland, Karen Everett and her husband, Jim, of Fort Fairfield; sister-in-law, Diana Mulherin and her husband, Michael, of Fort Fairfield; brothers-in-law, Robert Bomaster and his wife, Anne, of Jay and Dana Jewell and his wife, Sheila; aunt, Jeanette Lagasse of Fort Fairfield; nephews, Josh Taylor, Chad Dyer and Troy Everett; nieces, Jordon Dyer, Kerrie Alley and her husband, Todd, Kelly Pearce and her husband, Scott, and Jodie Pettegrow and her husband, Darren; grandchildren, Ashlee Bubar Williams and her husband, Derek, Melissa Bubar, Douglas Bubar, Meghan, Mason, Mihya and Maggie Baker; great-grandson, Wyatt Clifford Williams; many great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 23, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield where funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Larry Palmer officiating. Interment will take place after the funeral at Union Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
