ORRINGTON – Donald A. Sawyer, 78, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010, surrounded by his family at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. Donald was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Mattawamkeag, son of the late Herbert and Lucille (Harris) Sawyer. He grew up in Orrington and graduated from Brewer High School. He went to work at Eastern Fine Paper and retired from there in 1994. Donald was an avid NASCAR racing fan, who enjoyed the trips he made to Loudon, N.H. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his three sons, Donald, his wife, Gail, of Carmel, Ricky and his wife, Denise, of Orrington and Timothy of Bangor; his two daughters, Pamela and Lisa, both of Holden; four grandchildren, Christopher and his fiancee, Tiffany and son, Hunter, of Brewer, Ashlee and her fiance, Paul, of Bass Harbor, Robyn of Troy, N.Y., and Amy of Milford; his sister, Nellie Smallwood and husband, Tex, of Texas; his nieces, Jody, Paula and Brenda; brother-in-law, John Mugnai and wife, Pam and their children; and longtime friends, Herbert, Dale and Deb Henderson. He was predeceased by his brother, Raymond Sawyer and wife, Pat; his sister, Winnie Nowell and husband, Arthur; and niece, Winnie Rampy. Graveside services for family will be held at a later date.
