DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — Bowman Brothers of Newport was awarded the contract for the renovation of the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Station.

Selectmen on Monday accepted the company’s bid of $85,800 to remove and replace the old floor and subbase, and to reconfigure the vehicle entrances, according to Town Manager Jack Clukey. Instead of three smaller doors, there will be two larger doors installed for the vehicles, he said.

Residents approved a $100,000 bond issue last year for the renovation work, which is expected to begin early next month. The remaining funds will be used to install new piping beneath the floor, according to Clukey. Town officials will be moving forward with the financing in the next two weeks.

In other business, selectmen approved the appointments of Kyle Wilson, now with the Brownville Police Department, and David Henderson, now with the Milo Police Department, to full-time positions on the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department starting in late May. Wilson will take the position vacated by Charlie Edgerly, and Henderson will take the position vacated by Gary West.

The town must pay Brownville and Milo $18,000 each to compensate those communities for a portion of the funds they spent in training the two officers, according to Clukey. He said the compensation would be borne by the Police Department, which has managed to save the funds because of the vacancies.

Also on Monday, town officials reviewed bids for tax-acquired property and awarded the properties to the highest bidders. The properties were not all recently tax-acquired properties; some were held over from previous years, Clukey said. The lowest amount accepted for a property was $2,300, and the highest amount was $40,000. The latter property, the former Brigg’s Plumbing property on Route 15, was awarded to the Living Word Food Cupboard.
