WILLIAMSBURG – John H. Greaney Jr., 66, beloved husband of Carla (Bryant) Greaney, passed away April 27, 2010, at his residence. He was born Sept. 15, 1943, in Williamsburg, the son of John Henry and Isabel (Lancaster) Greaney Sr. John proudly served his country with the U.S. Army, both in Vietnam and in the war against terrorism, retiring as a master sergeant. He earned a degree in business administration from Beal Business College, graduating a valedictorian of his class. He worked at Dexter Shoe as an administrative controller and then many years for the Canadian Pacific Railroad as an engineer. He held offices with the Sub 5 Running Club, Experimental Aircraft Association and J.P. Chaisson American Legion Post No. 41, Milo. He enjoyed maintaining the family farm of which he was so proud. John appreciated his family, friends and caregivers, and the companionship and care he received while he battled colorectal cancer. John is survived by his wife, Carla of Williamsburg; his mother, Isabel Greaney of Williamsburg; his daughters, Shannon Bishop and her husband, Peter Sr., of Milo and their children, Bryant Lugo, Peter Bishop Jr., Ethan Bishop and Josie Bishop; Robin Lyford and her fiance, John Ladd, of Brownville Junction and her children, Kirby-John Lyford and his wife, Sarah, Allison Woodard and her husband, Phillip, and Ashley Lyford; and Laurie Earley of Manchester, N.H., and her children, Chelsea Shorey and Samantha Farrell; a son, Preston Earley of Derry, N.H., and his children, Tyler Cutler and Dillon Earley; three great-grandchildren, Kallie, Colton and Leigha; and a godson, Luke Cormier. He leaves a dear sister, with whom he shared a very special bond, Rose White and her husband, Richard, of Brownville; nephew and godson, Richard White; and niece, Christine Bolstridge. Friends are invited to call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo. A funeral service will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, April 30, at St. Francis Xavier and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Derby, with Deacon Fred Harrigan officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to share fellowship and music at Brownville Junction High School Alumni Hall, Brownville Junction, after the services.
