JONESPORT – Brenda Marie Colbert, 71, beloved wife of James Morgan Colbert, passed away April 25, 2010, with her family and friends at her side at her home. She was born Dec. 10, 1938, in Dorchester, Mass., the daughter of Andrew and Ethel Sullivan. She graduated from Dorchester High School and from Boston Clerical School. She lived in Weymouth and Middleboro, Mass., until 1978, at which time she moved to Jonesport with her family. Brenda and Jim owned and operated the Montgomery Ward Store, Machias, and later the JC Penney Catalog Store and Riverview Video. She became friends with many of her customers and loved spending time and swapping stories with them. She was a member and former treasurer of Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church, Jonesport. She loved music, boating and golfing, and was an avid fan of the New England Patriots. Her favorite pastime by far though, was just being with friends and family and making them laugh. Brenda is survived by her husband, who shared her life for 53 years, Jim; their children, Susan and her husband, Craig Lynn, of Jonesport, Michael and his wife, Barbara, of Sherbourne, N.Y., Daniel and his wife, Mirna, of Fall River, Mass., Nancy and her husband, Mark Roe, of East Machias and David of Jonesport; grandchildren, Christine (Lunn) Hachey and her husband, Jeff, of Addison, Timothy Lunn and his wife, Christina, of Jonesport, Jack and Jane Roe of East Machias and Julia and Stella Colbert of Fall River; great-grandchildren, Joshua and Brooke Hachey, Brian, Abigail, and Emily Lunn; sisters-in-law, Joyce Bossio of Hemet, Calif., and Helen Colbert of Bridgewater, Mass.; and brother-in-law, Stoddard “Bud” and wife, Betty Colbert, of Oak Bay, New Brunswick. She also leaves her lifelong friend, Patricia Bennett of Quincy, Mass.; and her dear friend, Sandy Moffett, to whom a special thanks is sent for her wonderful care and support and for brightening each day for her. Brenda will be missed by her family, close friends and her loving church family. She was predeceased by her parents; and brothers-in-law, Jack Colbert and John Bossio. A celebration of her life will be held 7 p.m. Friday, April 30, at Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church officiated by Pastor Gary Hunter and assisted by Phyllis Merritt. A reception will be held after the service in the church vestry. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brenda’s memory may be made to Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church, P.O.
