BUCKSPORT – W. Lloyd “Pappy” Arey passed away peacefully April 27, 2010, at Penobscot Nursing Home. He was born May 23, 1918, son of the late George W. and Sarah W. Arey. He was a veteran of the Navy. After his military service he returned to Bucksport to raise his family and go into business with his father. Lloyd and his dad, George, were well-known plumbers in the Bucksport area. He was a dedicated fisherman, always saying “the big one got away.” He spent many hours playing poker, bowling and fishing at Hancock Pond, brook and ice fishing with his buddies. He also had a “real fire” for the great outdoors, especially when November came around for deer hunting. Just ask his family and friends, he shot his share of deer. Surviving are his wife, Goldie of Penobscot; four children, Robert Arey and wife, Sylvia, Ruth (Arey) Farnham and husband, Dennis, of Penobscot, Jean (Arey) Chambers and husband, Larry, and Carole (Arey) LaDeau and husband, Donald, of Bucksport; 12 grandchildren, Dennis Farnham Jr. and friend, Jody, Teresa Higgins and husband, Kevin, Debbie Brown and husband, Roger, Linda Gray and friend, Joe, Robert Arey Jr. and wife, Diane, George Arey, Becky Wilbur and husband, Tim, Larry Chambers Jr. and wife, Trisha, Billy Chambers and wife, Lisa, Lucinda Gray-Chase and husband, Lucas, Jean Marie Gonyo and husband, John, and Russell Grant and wife, Sarah; 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters, three stepdaughters and many stepgrandchildren. Very special to Pappy were Dory Bowden and family and Donnie John Sorey and family; also nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie, mother of his four children, in 1971. Lloyd will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family expresses their gratitude and appreciation to the nurses at Penobscot Nursing Home for caring for Pappy and treating him with cookies and ice cream and ignoring his special touches. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1, at Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Silver Lake Road, Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
