VEAZIE – Amy B. Calkins, 98, died May 1, 2010, at a Brewer health care facility. She was born April 13, 1912, in Franklin, the eighth of nine children to Caddie (Brown) and Elmer C. Fernald. Amy graduated from Franklin schools and Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1935, where she met her husband, Alvah B. Calkins. They married in 1937 and settled in Veazie, where they lived together for 64 years. During those years, she was active in Veazie Grange, Veazie Follies, garden club, Veazie Congregational Church and Ladies Aid. She is survived by her son, Allan B. Calkins of Belfast; her daughter, Ann B. Gulesian of Boston and Orr’s Island; her granddaughter and husband, Dianna and Tracy Porter; grandson, Shawn Calkins; great-granddaughters, Renee D’Amboise, Katelyn Porter and Kaala Calkins; great-grandson, Brian Porter; great-great-grandson, Micah D’Amboise; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; daughter-in-law, Lois N. Calkins; and son-in-law, Dudley S. Gulesian. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at Veazie Congregational Church, Veazie.
