MADAWASKA – Joseph J. Gervais, 82, passed away May 3, 2010, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born June 2, 1927, in Laurence, Mass., the son of Ludger and Alphonsine (Gosselin) Gervais. He served his country in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. After the war, Joe returned home and worked for Fraser Paper for 38 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 147 of Madawaska and a third degree member of Knights of Columbus, Council No. 2638 of Madawaska. He was well known for his love of family and dogs. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Laurette M. Berube of Madawaska; his son, George Gervais and his wife, Susan, of Summerfield, N.C.; his daughter, Nancy Nichols and her husband, Stephen, of Presque Isle; two grandchildren, Steven Gervais and his wife, Gizel, of San Diego, and Linda Gervais of Nashville, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, George Gervais. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, May 6, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at Lajoie Funeral Home. A private interment will take place Thursday at Caribou Veterans Cemetery.
