OCALA, Fla. – Roger Joseph Cyr, 83, went to be with the Lord April 30, 2010, under the loving care of family and Marion County Hospice at Legacy House, Ocala, Fla. Mr. Cyr was born Aug. 6, 1926, in Caribou, to Joseph E. and Mary Cyr. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army 5th Cavalry Regiment in the South Pacific. He was a liquor store manager for the state of Maine Liquor Commission. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Caribou. Mr. Cyr and his wife moved from Caribou to Ocala, Fla., two years ago. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Gladys E. Cyr of Ocala, Fla.; two sons, Roger A. “Butch” Cyr and wife, Theresa, of Ocala, Fla., and Edgar R. “Eddie” Cyr and wife, Lorraine, of Skowhegan; brother, Clifford Cyr of South Carolina; sister, Ruth Helenski of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph E. and Mary Cyr; and brother, Malcolm “Mac” Cyr. Visitation will be held noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Ocala, Fla., where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4. Burial will be afterward at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Ocala, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in loving memory of Roger J. Cyr to Hospice of Marion County.
