MILLINOCKET – Pauline T. “Polly” Swanson, 81, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at a Millinocket hospital after a short illness. She was born May 15, 1928, in Millinocket, daughter of Berardino and Angelina (Cianchette) Di Marco. Polly was a graduate of Stearns High School, Millinocket, and worked at a local landmark, Smart’s Grocery Store for a few years before going to work for Great Northern Paper Co. as a statistician. She was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church where she volunteered many hours. Polly also volunteered her help for many community benefits. She served on the board of directors and served as a tour guide for the local AARP. Polly is survived by her husband, John Swanson of Millinocket, a romance that lasted 55 years. She is also survived by her son, Jack Swanson of Millinocket, the love of her life; her siblings, Carmela Hikel of Millinocket, Dennis Di Marco of Princeton, W.Va., Josephine Coleman of Springfield, Ore., and Asperino Di Marco and his wife, Sally, of Hampden; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, who will miss her special cookies and sense of humor. In addition to her parents, Polly was predeceased by two brothers, Peter and Armando Di Marco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 19 Colby St., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider. Interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Polly may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
