OTIS – Clifford Irving Carter, 85, died May 6, 2010, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1924, in Sedgwick, son of Irving L. and Agnes (Bell) Carter. Cliff served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 109. Cliff loved snow-mobiling and was a founding member of The Frenchmen Bay Riders, Lamoine. He worked for many years at A.B. & J.R. Hodgkins, Bar Harbor. He is survived by his son, Paul Carter and wife, Kim, of Otis; brothers, William Carter of Washington and Irving E. Carter of Kenduskeag; sisters, Erva Pinkham of Lamoine and Pauline Somes of Hancock; grandchildren, Tate and Shaelyn Carter of Otis; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Sylvia Sawyer of Osborn. He was predeceased by his wife of many years, Frances (Grindle) Carter; and sisters, Leatrice Young and Zelda Cook. Calling hours will be held 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday.
