MILFORD – Richard L. Ellis, 72, died peacefully Sunday, May 16, 2010, with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 9, 1937, in Orono, son of Andrew and Alice (Currier) Ellis. Richard graduated third in his class from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Orono, Class of 1955. He was employed at the University of Maine, both in the bookstore and public safety department for 32 years. After his retirement, he enjoyed working part time at Maritime International. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol (England) Ellis; three children, Michael Ellis and his wife, Lynda, of Milford, Karen Georgia and her husband, Michael, of Milford, and Thomas Ellis and his wife, Tara, of Buxton; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Corey, Rebecca, Brady, Carson, Kathleen and Drew; a brother, Michael Ellis of Bangor; sister, Mary Bryer and her husband, Rueben, of North Carolina; aunt, Edna Bragg of Bangor; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Friends may call noon-2 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Interment will be after at St. Joseph Cemetery.
