HAMPDEN and BANGOR – Phoebe Milliken O’Palenick, 96, passed away peacefully May 15, 2010, at a Bangor nursing facility. She was born July 25, 1913, in Cherryfield, one of the 11 children of Zephaniah and Grace Tibbetts. Phoebe worked for several years at Hampden Telephone Co. before going to work at Bangor Mental Health Institution. She had a wonderful life as a mother of five sons. She lived in Hampden for more than 40 years where she was an active member of Hampden Senior Citizens and later in Bangor at Sunbury Village. Her faith in God was unwavering as she was an active member of Christian Missionary Alliance, known today as Neighborhood Church. Phoebe also enjoyed winters spent in Zephyrhills, Fla. She possessed a magnetic personality and was loved by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl; two sons, Dale and Leslie; her second husband, George O’Palenick; a beloved granddaughter, Carlene; sisters, Grace Vague and Edna Black; and brothers, George, Maynard, Alan, Leslie and Louis. She is survived by three sons, Robert C. Milliken and wife, Mary, of Somers, Conn., James F. Milliken and wife, Charlene, of Bangor, and William Milliken of Southwest Harbor; stepchildren, Elaine Day and George O’Palenick; 17 grandchildren, more than 40 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. Family and friends may visit 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 31, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev.
