LEVANT – James C. McPhearson Jr., 42, died peacefully May 20, 2010, surrounded by his family at his home, after a long illness with brain cancer. He was born March 6, 1968, in Harbor City, Calif., the son of James C. and Nan M. (Mix) McPhearson Sr. Jim graduated from Torrance High School, Torrance, Calif., in 1987. He worked in the Torrance area for many years. Jim and Kathy moved to Maine in 1998. Jim worked various jobs and made many friends along the way. Most recently, he had worked for Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer at Penobscot County Jail, the one job he truly loved. Many thanks are extended to Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office for all of their support during this difficult time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, music and barbecues with his family, and he truly enjoyed watching NASCAR. One of Jim’s wishes was to be able to go to a NASCAR race other than New Hampshire. That wish was fulfilled in April when he went to Martinsville, Va., and was able to meet his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jim had a true love for animals, especially his dog and faithful companion, Chloe. He enjoyed the many hours he spent with John, Bob and Chris hanging out, puttering, and making many wood projects for the family in the garage, aka ManCave, where they became the very best of friends. A loving husband, father, friend and wonderful son, Jim is survived by his wife of 16 years, Kathy A. (King) McPhearson of Levant; three children: daughter, Maureen Klink and her better half, Eddie Pinkham, of Levant; and sons, Tyler Klink and James McPhearson III, all of Levant; his mother and stepfather, Nan McPhearson and Gary Leadsworth of Prescott, Ariz.; his aunt, Helen Fleming and her husband, Frank, of Prescott, Ariz.; an uncle, John “Uncle Pete” Mix Jr. of Mesa, Ariz.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Robert and Annie King of Levant; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, John and Laurie Ashman of Levant and Rob and Marge King of Bangor; and special nieces and nephews, Rachel, Johnny, Nelson and Mason. Jim was predeceased by his father, James Carl McPhearson Sr.; his grandparents, Helen and John Mix Sr.; and his great-grandmother, Edna McPhearson. Family and friend may visit 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 24, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A service honoring his life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, at Hermon Baptist Church, 2496 Route 2, Hermon, with the Rev. Garnett Chute, pastor, presiding. Please dress casually. Burial will be at Waugh Cemetery, Levant. Jim’s wish was for everyone to gather after his service to celebrate his life at the ManCave, 2 King’s Lane, Levant. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be to Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences may be offered at www.kileyandfoley.com.
