PRESQUE ISLE – Anna May Bishop, 89, passed away May 22, 2010, with family at her side. She was born May 6, 1921, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Kavanaugh) Gillespie. May graduated from Verdun Hospital School of Nursing, Montreal. She married Lewis F. Bishop of Presque Isle Jan. 13, 1945. A communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, May was an active member of Daughters of Isabella. She is survived by daughters, Gail Vreeland of Presque Isle, Sharon Fritz of Jupiter, Fla., Patricia Crawford of Palm Beach, Fla., and Carmen Haggerty of Auburn; sons, Kevin of Cape Elizabeth, Greg of South Portland, Peter of Old Orchard Beach, Matt of Portland, Kent of San Francisco, Robert of Henderson, Nev., and Stephen of New Port Ritchie, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and siblings, Edward Gillespie of Presque Isle, Stephen Gillespie of London, Ontario, Joan Tweedie of Westfield, Mary Hunter of Scarborough, Anne Schopf of New Brunswick, N.J., Marie Finlayson of Ancaster, Ontario, Bertha Kuntz of Red Deer, Alberta, and Agnes Rosteski of Birch River, Manitoba. She was predeceased by brothers, Bernard, John, Earlin and Joe Gillespie; sister, Rita Sullivan; daughter, Christine; and husband, Lewis. The family thanks Presque Isle Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care May received for the past seven years. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant. A reception will be immediately afterward at Knights of Columbus Hall. Interment will be in St. Mary’s North Main Street Cemetery.
