WESTBROOK – Eric Ernest Benson, 24, died Sunday, May 23, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at Maine Medical Center, Portland. Eric was born in Portland. He graduated from Westbrook High School in 2005. He played the saxophone in the marching band all through high school. He recently moved back to Westbrook from Farmington, where he attended the University of Maine at Farmington for the past four years. He majored in chemistry and geology. He was to graduate this year. Eric was as brilliant as he was humorous, and had a contagious smile. He could always make people laugh. He had a great love for nature and enjoyed fishing, snowboarding, biking, camping and his rock collection. He had a passion for his cars and was a member of Cumberland Motor Club. He is survived by his parents, David and Wendy Benson (Severance) of Westbrook; two brothers, his identical twin, Andrew, of Orono and Marc of Westbrook; two sisters, Hollyanne and Heather, both of Westbrook; grandparents, Robert and Judith Benson of Windham; grandfather, Ernest Severance of Andover; great-grandmother, Ellen Larrabee of Auburn; and a vast number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Eric was predeceased by his loving grandmother, Marilyn Severance, and will be laid to rest near her. Eric will be missed greatly by all. The viewing will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 29, at St. Anthony Parish, St. Hyacinth Church, 295 Brown St., Westbrook, where a service will be held noon, with a reception downstairs immediately after.
