BANGOR, Maine — Weather officials will release findings later this afternoon about a severe thunderstorm that swept through north central Penobscot and south central Aroostook counties Wednesday, leaving at least three people injured,/a>.
Few details about the injuries in Stacyville were available at press time.
State police Sgt. Tom Pelletier said Wednesday night that he had received preliminary information from Trooper Tim Saucier indicating that three people who were at a residence were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries they suffered after a power line went down during a severe thunderstorm.
The names and ages of the residents and the extent and nature of their injuries were not immediately available, Pelletier said. At least one of the people reportedly was transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Pelletier also said it was not yet clear if the injuries were directly related to the fallen electrical wires.
Despite a tornado warning issued for the area, which remained in effect from about 5 to 6 p.m., the weather service had not received confirmation of any twisters in the area as of press time.
