DENVER – John William Gilmore died May 10, 2010, in Denver. He was born Nov. 17, 1925, in Hampden, son of Edward Henry and Mary Veronica Hardy Gilmore. John graduated from John Bapst High School in 1943 and entered the Army Air Corps after graduation, serving with the 20th Combat Air Force in a B-24 and later in a B-29. John received his graduate degree from the University of Georgia and was a Phi Beta Kappa key member. He worked for the Food and Drug Administration until his retirement. He was always a scholarly gentleman and lived in cities, which afforded excellent libraries for research. He was always quick to laugh and see the humor in life. He loved family and his home state of Maine. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Simeon, Joseph and Gene; sisters, Winifred Sanborn, Virginia Clarey and Jane Leavitt; his daughter, Charlotte; and special niece, Nancy Sanborn Dean. He is survived by his son, Glenn of Hilton, N.Y.; daughters, Wendy Gilmore and Gloria Gilmore of Rochester, N.Y.; a special granddaughter, Alexa; and his second wife, Ellinor. He leaves many nephews and nieces; including special nieces, Jane Sanborn Ice of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Rosemary Sanborn Robbins of Tustin, Calif. Services were private.
