TROY – Norman S. Heitmann Jr., 90, died June 3, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 16, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Norman and Mildred (Squires) Heitmann Sr. He graduated from Amityville High School, Long Island, N.Y., Class of 1938, and served in the U.S. Army 7th Infantry, 3rd Division during World War II and the Korean War, retiring as a master sergeant in 1962. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of Morses Corner Baptist Church and Acheron Lodge No. 75. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Duryea) Heitmann of Troy; three sons, Richard Heitmann and wife, Toni Jago, of Knoxville, Tenn., John Heitmann of Bangor, and Norman Heitmann III and wife, Pat, of Hampden; three daughters, Nancy Kelley and Denise Nadeau, both of Augusta, and Jo and husband, Rick Perry, of Fairfield; 12 grandchildren, Mark Mitchell, Dee Heitmann-Hughes, Jacob and Jared Bragg, Emily Lenney, Kimberly, Christopher and Nic Heitmann, Lea Williams, Kara Heitmann-Calor, Tyler and Carly Perry; and seven great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Hannah, Kallie, Anjolia, Ethan, Dryden and Lily. Norman was predeceased by a brother, Richard in 1926; and by a grandson, Andrew Bragg in 2004. A memorial service with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport. Private interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Troy.
