NORTH YARMOUTH, Maine — A Maine teenager and his family’s beagle are both recovering from injuries suffered when they fell into a 20-foot deep well in North Yarmouth.
A 3-year-old beagle named Daisy first fell into the well Monday when it crossed a cover while it was chasing a chipmunk.
The dog’s owner Kevin Lovenstein says the dog was drowning and his son, 18-year-old Gerrick Lovenstein climbed down into the well and held the dog on his shoulders while waiting to be rescued. The water was chest deep.
Firefighters arrived about 15 minutes later.
Gerrick Lovenstein was treated at a hospital for hypothermia and released.
Daisy is said to be doing just fine.
Kevin Lovenstein says he’s going to put a more sturdy cover on the well.
