MATTAWAMKEAG – Harry W. Markie, 72, husband of Patricia (Gray) Markie, passed away June 13, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 26, 1938, in Mattawamkeag, the son of Margaret J. (Leavitt) and George H. Markie Sr. Harry was employed for more than 30 years at Great Northern Paper Co., East Millinocket, where he worked as a machinist and mechanic. He enjoyed his Wednesday trips to the car auction with his brother, Leon, and his weekly outing at Happy China Restaurant. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Pat were married June 13, 51 years ago. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Timothy Markie and his wife, Beth, and Harley Markie and his special friend, Kristine, all of Mattawamkeag; four grandchildren, Brandon, Dailyn, Melany and Matthew; four brothers, Leon Markie Sr., George and Donna Markie, all of Mattawamkeag, Darrell Sr. and Barbara Markie of Lincoln and Bryant Sr. and Jeanne Markie of Mattawamkeag; a sister, Linda Markie of Old Orchard Beach; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Gary; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn. Visitation will be for family only. Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mattawamkeag Cemetery with the Rev. Mark York officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends after the services at Mattawamkeag Church of God. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Penobscot Valley Humane Society, 1 Park Ave., Lincoln, ME 04457 or to a charity of one’s choice.
