BANGOR – Ruth E. Hurley passed away peacefully Sunday, June 13, 2010, surrounded by her family. She was born May 23, 1928, to Leon and Agnes Healey. Ruth was raised in Dover, N.H. After graduating from Dover High School, she married Francis P. Crossan. She and Francis shared six years together and had three children: son, Michael; and daughters, Helen and Frances, before his death in 1954. Ruth married Gerald “Jeff” Hurley, in 1956. He adopted the three children and they were blessed with another, daughter, Pamela, in 1964. After Jeff’s passing in July 2005, Ruth worked as a homemaker, part-time for Porteous-Mitchell and sold Avon, Fashion Two Twenty and Lady Fanelle cosmetics. Ruth was an active member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, volunteering at the Attic and singing in the choir. Her husband, Jeff was active in Bangor Elks and Ruth loved attending the many charitable fundraisers and social events. Ruth loved spending winters at her Florida home with many members of the Hurley and Crossan families visiting. She also enjoyed her special time at the ocean in Harpswell, visiting her daughter, Pam and family. Ruth is survived by daughter, Frances Kelly and her husband, Robert, of Veazie; daughter, Helen Carpenter of Bangor; son, Michael Hurley and his wife, Kelli, of Bangor; daughter, Pamela (Hurley) Moser and her husband, David, of Harpswell; six grandchildren, Renee Weeks of Old Town, Wendy (Kelly) Slauenwhite and her husband, Mark, of Manchester, N.H., Julie (Kelly) Cote and her husband, Shane, of Hampden, Matthew Hurley of New York City, Erin Gagnon and her husband, Matthew, of Alexandria, Va., and Sabina Ruth Moser of Harpswell; and six great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Freeman, Grace, Anthony, Andrew and Alec. She is also survived by four brothers, Leon Healey of Milton, N.H., William Healey of Barrington, N.H., Edward Healey of Dover, N.H., and Robert Healey of Gonic, N.H. In addition to her first husband, Francis; and her second husband, Jeff, she was predeceased by five sisters, Alice Camera, Dorothy Hayes-Wentworth, Irene Webber, Evelyn Healey and Gladys Chasse Dolan. The family thanks her caretakers, Nancy, Jean, Judy, Denise, Andra and Shawana for their devotion and care making Ruth’s final days comfortable. Special thanks to Connie Caron for her weekly visits and to her special friend, Marge Rutan for her many cards and phone calls. A very special thanks to all her friends at Sunbury Village. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the interment at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
