WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. and PROSPECT – Phyllis Elaine (Coombs) Newman McIntosh, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Henry Ford Hospital, after a short struggle with lung cancer. She was born in May 1937, in Bucksport, to Westley and Edith (Seavey) Coombs. She was brought up on a farm in North Orland. She graduated from Bucksport High School, Class of 1955. After graduating she moved to Portland, where she worked for a telephone company. She later traveled to Washington D.C. and met her husband, Richard Newman. They moved on to Virginia where they raised their five children. She was an administrative assistant for St. Margaret’s and All Saint’s Episcopal Church for over 20 years. She traveled extensively, even walking the Appalachian Trail, which was one of her triumphs. She was predeceased by the father of her children, Richard; and her parents. She is survived by her five children; nine grandchildren; and her brother, Frank Coombs of Prospect. Peace goes out to all our extended family near and far, for she loved us all. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. July 17 at East Bucksport Methodist Church, Bucksport. She will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
