ROME, Maine — An Oakland man has died after falling from a large tree he was pruning.
Police say 34-year-old Derrick Spiller fell 50 to 60 feet to the ground on Tuesday when one of his cleats slipped.
The accident was reported around noon at a seasonal camp where a couple of people saw Spiller fall.
The Kennebec Journal said rescuers could not revive him.
Fire officials say Spiller was equipped with a harness that appeared to be intact at the time of the fall.
