BANGOR – Louis Barbalias, 87, died June 23, 2010, at Maine Veterans Home. He will be missed for the warm affection and amazing humor he so generously reflected upon others. He was born March 31, 1923, in Lewiston, the son of Constantine and Stavroula (Andrianas) Barbalias. Louis graduated from Lewiston High School, Class of 1943, and was drafted into the U.S. Army. Through the end of World War II, 1943-1946, he served honorably as a private first class – CAC and SP in the Rhineland, Central Europe. He returned home thanks to God’s grace, and began a family. On June 17, 1951, he married his beloved Alexandria “Sandra” (Limberis) of Bangor. He was a faithful husband and father who loved newspapers, world news, football and boxing. Louis was predeceased by his first daughter, Stella, 2, in 1954; his wife, Sandra, Jan. 20, 1994; and his siblings Theodore, Peter, Helen and Katherine. He is survived by his brother, the eldest, Arthur of Houston, Texas; four children, Kathie, Vicki, Barbara and Peter; five grandchildren, Jason, Eric, Laurie, Chris and Andrea; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Elijah; and his special friend and beloved companion, Beryle Ames of Bucksport. Lou was a great servant to his family and community. We thank God for him. Louis is no longer thirsty in the presence of the living water, and we can with confidence expect to see him again because his faith was in Christ Jesus, the resurrection and the life. Through faith alone in the son of God exclusively, the life-giving enjoyment of the matchless, father-son relationship with God is freely available to all. Through Christ’s death for our sins, his resurrection, and the gift of his indwelling spirit, we cry out in truth: “Abba – Daddy, Father God!” A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 90 Sanford St., Bangor, with the Rev. Theodore Toppses of Lewiston, presbyter, presiding. In lieu of sending flowers, please make donations to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 90 Sanford St., Bangor, ME 04401.
