Former University of Maine All-American goaltender Jimmy Howard of the Detroit Red Wings has been named to the NHL’s All-Rookie team and was the runnerup to Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers in the balloting for the Calder Trophy given to the league’s Rookie of the Year.

  The 26-year-old Howard went 37-15-10 during the regular season for the Wings with a 2.26 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage. His save percentage was fourth-best in the league and his goals-against average was fifth-best.
