ELLSWORTH – James Daniel Barnes, 85, died June 27, 2010, at his residence. He was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Bangor, the son of Arnold R. and Myrtle (Braley) Barnes. Jim served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a corporal. He worked for the state of Maine Department of Transportation for 28 years. Jim also worked for the U.S. Fish & Wild Life Department of Interior for 17 years. He was a member of Lygonia Masonic Lodge No. 40 AF & AM. He is survived by sons, James A. Barnes of Mariaville and Daniel M. Barnes and wife, Cherie, of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Jeremy and Nathan; great-grandson, Hunter; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Eva Frost Barnes, in 2009; two sisters, Dorothy Jordan and Margaret Whitmore; and a brother, Harold Barnes. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Ellsworth.
