MARS HILL – Joyce P. Stackpole, 81, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at a Houlton hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 27, 1928, in Monticello, the daughter of Glendon M. and Bertha (Kinney) Horne. Joyce grew up in Monticello and attended Monticello schools, as well as Bridgewater Classical Academy. She married Floyd Stackpole and lived on their farm with their three children in Bridgewater. In addition to working on the farm, she also worked as a certified nurse’s aide at Mars Hill Nursing Home for many years. She is survived by her three children, Bonny McCrum of Mars Hill, Patricia Tripp of Whitefield and Joseph Stackpole of Mars Hill; five grandchildren, Jon McCrum and his wife, Melissa, Tim McCrum and his wife, Amy, Chris Stackpole and his wife, Janine, Michael Ferris and Kasandra Tripp; as well as six great-grandchildren, Cody, Emma and Kaylee McCrum, Shane Stackpole, Amber and Danicia Ferris. She also leaves behind a sister, Eleanor Campbell; and a very special friend, Joyce Clockedile. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Willis Horne; and the father of her children, Floyd Stackpole. The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Abouleish and the PCU staff of Houlton Regional Hospital for all their wonderful care. Friends may call 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service 3 p.m. Thursday at Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Interment will take place after the service at Smith Cemetery, Bridgewater.
