MACHIASPORT – Virginia R. Maker, 86, died July 3, 2010. She was born May 6, 1924, in North Cutler, the daughter of Roy and Attie (Dudley) Davis. She attended North Cutler schools and Dennysville High School. She enjoyed some summers spent in Washington, D.C., with her sister and friends. For many years she worked in local sardine factories and restaurants, but mostly was a homemaker. She loved music, especially country, and was a great bingo fan. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting in later years. She and her husband “Cape” lived most of their life in Cutler, later moving to East Machias, then Machias, and then Machiasport in 2007. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Caleb; a son, M. Craig and wife, Paula, of East Machias; a daughter, Jolene and husband, Barry Wood Sr., of Machiasport; five grandchildren, Joey A. Wood and wife, Stephanie, of Marshfield, Eric Wood and companion, Tammy Davis, Barry Wood Jr. and wife, Tara, all of Machiasport, Melinda M. Weston and husband, Heron, of Eastport and Joshua Maker and wife, Colleen, of North Haven; nine great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Morgan, Hailey, Tyler, Madison and Marissa Wood, Alexandria and Grace Maker, and Kieran Weston; two brothers, Robert Davis and wife, Norma, and Vance Davis and wife, Arlene, both of Cutler; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Roger and Charles Davis; two sisters, Frances Flood and Christina Faas; a grandson, Joseph Wood; and a great-grandson, Evan Weston. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at New Cutler Cemetery.
