DEXTER – Constance P. “Connie” Fortier, 89, passed away peacefully July 4, 2010, in the presence of her family in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Bartlett, N.H., daughter of the late Robert Bruce Morse and Myrtie Nina (Aldridge) Morse Hurd. Connie graduated from Portland High School and Northeastern Business College, Portland. In 1940, she married Robert M. Fortier and they resided in Portland and later in Dexter. They were married for 62 years. Connie worked in many secretarial positions, including Union Mutual, Dexter Shoe Co. and Dexter Regional High School, where she retired after 20 years of service. After her retirement she volunteered in many community organizations, including Dexter Food Cupboard, Meals for Me and the Thrift Shop. She was a member of United Methodist Church and in later years, Christian Community Church, where she delighted the community with her talent for making delicious chicken pies for church suppers. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making wedding gowns, bridesmaid gowns and flower girl dresses for her family members. She devoted many hours to helping care for her friends and family throughout the years. Connie is one of seven children and is survived by a sister, Marjorie A. Cook of South Portland; and a brother, Stephen H. Morse and his wife, Eileen, of Bangor. She is also survived by daughters, Sally P. Lawson and her husband, John, of Dexter, and Sandra E. Padham and fiance, Philip Stevens, of Dexter; five grandchildren, Stephen Lawson and wife, Heidi, of Dexter, Lorraine Inserra and husband, Bill, of Saratoga, Calif., Cynthia Lawson of Bangor, Christopher Padham and his significant other, Missy White, of Charlton, Mass., and Jamie Padham and fiance, Chip, Reier, of Dexter; and five great-grandchildren, Wendy and Kara Lawson, and Billy, Mandy and Danny Inserra. A memorial service will be held in early August. A private interment for family and friends will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. The family requests no flowers.
