YARMOUTH, Maine — The Postal Service says a special postmark is being authorized as a unique souvenir to celebrate the Maine Clam Festival’s 45th year.

Stamp collectors and clam festival fans can mail to family and friends an envelope or postcard canceled with a special postmark documenting the occasion.

The postmark was designed by postal carrier Mark “Mac” McAfee (MACK-uh-fee). It honors Maine’s Olympic competitors and Herbie the Champion American elm tree.

Yarmouth Post Office staff will host a tent at the festival this Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., where visitors can get an envelope or postcard with the special postmark.
