Increasingly in recent years, Maine towns and cities make the most out of the summer months by hosting festivals nearly every weekend. Some festivals draw 5,000 to 10,000 paying visitors, some as many as 25,000. Do those visitors spend enough money in town to warrant additional municipal costs? Or are the municipal costs negligible? Does a city or town risk watering down its lure by having too many festivals? Or is having a festival every weekend in July and August good tourism marketing, because there is a different group of visitors each week?
