ROCKLAND, Maine — Two Matinicus lobster boat sternmen who police said broke into an island home in May, beat up another sternman and stole his gun were among 66 people indicted Thursday afternoon by the Knox County grand jury.
Joshua S. Anthony, 29, and Jason R. Luce, 39, were each indicted for burglary, theft by unauthorized taking, aggravated assault, aggravated criminal trespass and terrorizing. In addition, Anthony was indicted for criminal threatening.
According to police, the two men entered the victim’s island home on May 1 and assaulted him for nearly an hour, leaving him with a fractured nose, bruises on his face and side, and possibly a few fractured ribs.
Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison reported that the crimes were committed over fishing territory arguments.
Anthony and Luce were angry because the victim’s friends had set fishing gear off the island, according to the police report.
One of the men also took the victim’s .357-caliber revolver and threatened to harm the victim’s girlfriend and parents if he reported the incident to police, according to the report.
The grand jury on Thursday also indicted Bradley W. Lemay, 44, of Augusta on charges of gross sexual assault, burglary, aggravated assault, criminal threatening, aggravated criminal trespass and eluding an officer.
Police said Lemay raped a woman on June 2 in a Camden home. After she reported the assault, police spotted a vehicle matching the description she gave of the one her assailant was driving, according to police reports. A high-speed chase ensued, ending with the tires being blown out by spike mats and Lemay’s arrest, police said.
Weeks later, Lemay injured himself when he fell while trying to climb a barbed-wire fence to escape Knox County Jail, according to police.
One secret indictment was not released Thursday because the person had not yet been arrested.
