OAKFIELD – Clyde C. Johnston Jr. passed away July 14, 2010, at Houlton Regional Hospital. He was born June 16, 1925, in Smyrna, one of 11 children born to Clyde C. Sr. and Adelaide (Webster) Johnston. Clyde was a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. His favorite place was his old hunting camp. He loved nature and being out in the woods. He was such a pleasant man who enjoyed people. He always thought of others before himself. Clyde graduated from Merrill High School in 1944. He married Evelyn M. (Burton) Johnston in 1946, nearly 64 years ago. After working in the woods, on farms and doing carpentry, he began his 37-year career with Bangor and Aroostook Railroad. He was a “railroad man” to the end. He was on the board of directors for Oakfield Historical Society, a member of Odd Fellows and Oakfield Baptist Church. He is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn; son, Danny and his wife, Ronnee; loving grandchildren, Erin (Johnston) York and her husband, Vaughn, and Seth Johnston and his wife, Alisha (Boisvert); special great-grandchildren, Olivia Johnston and Lane York; brother, Alton and his wife, Lil; sister, Thelma (Harper) Stevens and her husband, Robert; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Harriet Tabor Miller Johnston; sisters, Esther Tarbox, Ella Mae Boutilier, Dorothy Brownlow and infant Clara; brothers, Clarence, George, Kenneth and Robert; and a special brother-in-law, Edward Burton. A special thank-you to the staff at Houlton Regional Hospital, Madigan Estates and friend, “Doc” Newman. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Oakfield Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jamie Gardner officiating. Interment will be at Oakfield Cemetery.
