SCARBOROUGH – Pamela Worcester Leslie, loving wife, mother, nanny, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, lost her two-year battle with breast cancer July 15, 2010. Pam was born Jan. 20, 1945, in Bangor, the daughter of Erma and Robert Worcester. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1963 and Central Maine General School of Nursing, Lewiston, in 1966. Pam worked at Mass General Hospital, Boston, until 1967 when she married David Leslie, and they moved to Rochester, N.Y. While in New York, Pam was employed as a visiting nurse and gave birth to their son, Jon. The family moved to Groton, Mass., in 1970, and their son, Scott, was born in 1972. After moving to Groton, Mass., and raising her boys, Pam became an avid tennis player, golfer and master gardener. She did return to nursing and worked with the elderly at Apple Valley Nursing Home, after the boys entered high school. The family always stayed in touch with their Maine roots, visiting campgrounds all over the state or staying in their family homes in the Bangor/ Brewer area and ultimately purchased a camp on Long Lake, Harrison, where they spent many weekends on and in the water. It was during this time that Pam started hosting Fourth of July parties for family and friends. Pam was always patriotic and this was her favorite holiday. As they neared retirement, they sold the lake house and they moved to their home in Scarborough, and the Independence Day parties switched from the lake to the pool and the good times continued. In the short time since moving to Scarborough, Pam became active in First Congregational Church, garden club and golf league. She will be remembered for her love of flowers, books, the ocean, the golf links, friends, family and life. Pam kept her wonderful sense of humor and her caretaker ways throughout her life. She always placed the needs of others above her own. Pam leaves behind her husband, David Leslie; sons, Jon and wife, Miriam, of Uppsala, Sweden, and Portland, and Scott and wife, Suzanne, of Winchester, Mass.; grandchildren, Samantha and Jake Leslie of Winchester, Mass., and Mackey Holler of Uppsala, Sweden, and Portland; her sister, Cheryl Worcester of Freeport; father-in-law, Harry Leslie of Portland; a special cousin, Katherine Miller of Venice, Fla.; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Weisberg, Dixie, and everyone at the Maine Cancer Center, as well the staff and wonderful volunteers at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their support and assistance. They also thank the wonderful women of First Congregational Church for their loving friendship and support of Pam, and all her wonderful girlfriends from Massachusetts and the new friends she made in Maine. A memorial service celebrating Pam’s life will be held 11 a.m. July 19 at First Congregational Church, 167 Black Point Road, Scarborough. Interment will be private at Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough. In lieu of flowers, Pam suggested contributions to Scarborough Public Library, 48 Gorham Road, Scarborough, ME 04074. Arrangements made by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
