STEUBEN – Alton J. Dinsmore died July 16, 2010, at a Milbridge health care facility. He was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Brewer, son of James W. and Hazel (Robinson) Dinsmore. Alton was a U.S. Army Veteran, who served during World War II. He was a cryptic technician stationed at general headquarters on Gen. MacArthur’s staff in Tokyo. After coming home from the war he worked at Jasper Wyman’s & Sons as a warehouse supervisor for 49 years. He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Holland) Dinsmore of Steuben; three children, Capt. Almer L. Dinsmore and his wife, Linda, of Trenton, Margaret Marie Specksgoor and her husband, Bill, of Penfield, N.Y., and Capt. Bruce J. Dinsmore, U.S. Navy Reserve, retired, and his wife, Betty, of Fairhope, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Aaron C. Dinsmore, Capt. Benjamin T. Dinsmore, Melissa Michielsen, Jennifer Howard, April Schirmer, Charity B. Dinsmore, James W. Dinsmore, Jenny H. Flynn and Katie P. Gibson; 15 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Dayton, Kiersten, Lacey, Cynthia, Stephanie, James A., Zachary, Alia, Margaret “Maggie,” Hunter, Brooks, Emma, Hanna and Brooks; two children from a previous marriage, Lloyd A. Dinsmore and his wife, Livvy, of East Boothbay and Sally Vidart and her husband, Juan, of Middleburg, Fla.; two grandchildren, Sally Lavern Williams and Johnny Lee; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua and Sierra; many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Teresa Ginn and her son, Russell. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother and two sisters. In keeping with his wishes, burial will be private. Interment will be at Steuben Village Cemetery.
