BAR HARBOR – Rita Elaine Johnston, 60, died July 15, 2010, in Bar Harbor. She was born Sept. 4, 1949, in Bar Harbor, daughter of Donald L. and Florence E. (Carter) Johnston. She was a 1967 graduate of Bar Harbor High School and a graduate of Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, Boston. She worked as a bookkeeper for Mount Desert Island Hospital and the Hinckley Co. for many years. She was an office manager at Knowles Real Estate Agency for several years and went on to become a full real estate broker at the Lynam Agency. Golf was Rita’s passion and she loved to travel. She was a member and a deacon of Bar Harbor Congregational Church, where she served as secretary to the deacons and at Beth Wright Cancer Center, Ellsworth. Her lively wit and sparkling personality will be missed by her many special friends and family. Rita is survived by her loving husband of seven years, Leonard “Lenney” De Muro; her daughter, Melissa Mills and husband, Kevin; one sister, Maureen Sumner and husband, Clifton, all of Bar Harbor; five grandchildren, Kelsey and Carter Mills, Rex and Ruby De Muro and Danielle Dubois; and two favorite nieces, Kim Craighead and Susan Minogue. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at Bar Harbor Congregational Church, Bar Harbor, with the Rev. Dr. Sandra Reed officiating.
